02.05.2012 I've got a group exhibition coming up over at one of Cardiff nicest cafes A Shot in the Dark (12 City Road). The exhibition is part of the Jazz Gallery, a weekly jazz night that aims to provide a platform for local jazz musicians and artists. The other two participants are Dan Hamilton and Nicole Miles, with whom I share a studio at the Morgan Arcade Studios. The opening is Sunday May 13th at 20.00 and there will live music by the Dino Plasmati/Carlo Fraccalvieri Open Quartet. It would be lovely to see you there, but don't worry if you can't make it, the exhibition is up until August 4th.
16.04.2012 For microbrewery Artisan Brewing in Cardiff (famous for their Bare Naked Beers) I've designed a poster to promote their montly Bar Open event. Every first Saturday of the month people are invited to taste the various beers in the courtyard of the brewery. It's always great fun with a barbecue, a good crowd and of course the best beers. Next Bar Open is on May 5th! Have a look at the poster here.
31.03.2012 I'm working hard on all sorts of projects, ranging from editorial illustrations to poster and packaging design to logos. As soon as I find the time I'll upload the results here!

22.02.2012 Please come and join me this Saturday February 25 at the Ffotogallery in Penarth, Cardiff for the 6th Book Arts Fayre. Over 60 artists will be selling their (handmade) books and zines. I'll be there to sell my bookplates and a new zine, and to play records on my portable record player. Later that day you can find me behind the decks at 10ft Tall during their afterparty!
10.02.2012 You can now pre-order the book What I Wore Today - Doodle Yourself into a Style Icon by illustrator Gemma Correll on Amazon! It's a sketchbook, journal, manual on how to draw and fashion guide all in one, that will let you "scribble, sketch and doodle your way through a year's worth of your best outfits, or biggest fashion mistakes". To provide some inspiration and examples they've picked a couple of drawings from the (5000+ items!) Flickr group, and one of those is me in what I call my 'straight laced' outfit!!
31.01.2012 In the nick of time I sent of mysketchbook to the Brooklyn Art Library. All the books submitted to The Sketchbook Project will go on an exhibition tour, calling at all the major cities in the US, as well as Melbourn and London.
02.01.2012 Happy New Year y'all! 2012 is off to a great start for me: I'm moving into my new studio tomorrow! Along with 12 other illustrators, designers and artists I will occupy the second floor of the Morgan Arcade, a beautiful Victorian arcade. I'm very much looking forward to having an 'office' (which means home will be a home again) and 'colleagues'!
22.11.2011 In their quest for new sub-urban owners my show dogs will travel to Almere and Lelystad this December. They'll be for sale during the Kerst & Carry exhibitions, where you can buy perfect Sinterklaas and Christmas gifts from young designers and artists. 18.11.2011 Friday November 25 the semi-permanent exhibition ZELF! opens in children's museum Villa Zebra, Rotterdam. The exhibition consists of six art installations that have been created specifically for 3-6 year olds. One of the installations is a little hospital where kids can create new human beings with the bodyparts I made together with Renée Reijnders and Geeske de Graaff. The way the exhibition space is designed is a work of art in itself, so you should really go and take a look! You can either go to the opening at 10.00 and have coffee and cake, or at 17.00 if you fancy a drink and a snack.

11.10.2011 This summer I got a request to design a jam jar label. As I'm a keen maker of chutney's and fruit infused liquor I was very excited about this idea and I've been happily using them myself. Now YOU can buy them as well, here on my website using PayPal or your creditcard. Easy peasy!

Have a look to see work in progress and sketches, the latest fleamarket treasures I've gathered, read about artists I find inspirational, my favorite music and films, and more random stuff. There's not much on there now of course, but I'm strong-willed to keep it up, so keep checking back!

09.09.2011 Yesterday morning I returned from an amazing trip to New York and surrounding areas (did you know you can go camping on a virtually deserted ocean beach just two hours from the city?!). We spent our last few days in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn where I stocked up on zines at Desert Island and on Asian girlgroups and carribean funk from the 60s at Earwax. Plus I signed up for the Sketchbook Project at the Art House Co-op. I'm very excited that my finished sketchbook will tour some of the major cities in the US and Canada + Melbourn + London and will end up in the Brooklyn Art Library afterwards! During my trip I did a lot of sketching in my personal sketchbook and I'll put some of them up here in the next few days.
10.08.2011 For kids museum Villa Zebra in Rotterdam I am currently working on a very exciting project for toddlers. Life-sized dolls that I made together with Geeske in 2006 (take a look at some pictures here) are getting revamped and new dolls are added . This time I'm working with Renée Reijnders and today we spent the whole day bathing the dolls.. they were so dirty! We'll soon start working on the new parts so everything will be finished in time for the grand opening in November.
06.08.2011 I really enjoyed the first day of the Letterpress Printmaking course at Cardiff Open Art School today. We made some prints using the Adana letterpress (quite a nifty machine!), and we'll be using the flatbed press tomorrow. I'm loving it!
20.07.2011 Can't believe that out of thousands of submissions one of my drawings has been picked for the book What I Wore Today by the awesome illustrator Gemma Correl!! The book is based on her What I Wore Today blog and Flickr group, where people upload their drawings of their outfits. Can't wait for the book to see the light of day next year, being published by Octopus Books!
01.07.2011 I am hounered to be selected as one of the artists to submit an artwork for the Grote Rotterdamse Kunstkalender 2012. Every page of this block calander will feature a different artist, photographer, designer, architect or illustrator from this amazing city. With its impressive size and weight (29.7 x 34 cm; 2.75 kilos!) it's going to be a work of art on its own! Available from September November 11.

15.05.2011 Sorry it's been a bit quiet here over at the news section. I haven't been sitting still though! In between doing lots and lots of editorial illustrations I'm working on my first picture book. It's truly a joy to develop the characters, try different techniques, sketching all the scenes and putting funny little details in. But jeez, it's hard work! I'll keep you posted..
18.03.2011 Like last year I submitted work for the project Jazz Cakes 100. The concept has remained the same: 100 artists get assigned a number and then produce a work based on this number. Last year the medium was a t-shirt, this year it's postcards. The results will be exhibited in Liverpool at the Royal Standard's Project Space from May 8th till May 14th, and in Cardiff at the Milkwood Gallery, opening June 3rd.
18.03.2011 I'm participating in the 50-50 Affordable Art Show at The Undertone (below 10 Feet Tall) in Cardiff with some new work! All the art works are priced between 50p and £5o, so make sure to bring your wallet on Thursday March 24th. It opens at 19.00 and there will be music and drinks and good people.
21.02.2011 Next gig coming up: March 5th at Villa Zebra during the Rotterdam Museum Night! The festival and Villa Zebra are both celebrating their 10th birthday, so all the reasons to party twice as hard. Hop on the special Museum Night bus or boat and come to Rotterdam's most fun museum for workshops, drinks and the best songs of the last decade. It's going to be a looooooong night!
05.01.2011 Theater De Veste in Delft is celebrating its 15th birthday with a huge festival, "packed with music, dance, theatre, art and literature". They asked Dutch Dolls to create a little party in the foyer with Blanche on Saturday the 15th. Plus we get to do a set in the main hall of Club Ciccionina at the afterparty. We're sharing the bill with Daniel Haaksman and Berts on Beats, which is superexciting!!!
03.01.2011 Happy New Year everyone!! Let's hope it's going to be a good one! Well the year is starting off great for Dutch Dolls and Blanche with a set at the Winterwolven Performance Party on January 8! United Sound Sytems Rotterdam (U.S.S.R) invited us to play at Roodkapje Rotterdam during this nightly affair "filled with weird performances, underground art and bizarre entertainment"... Should be interesting to say the least!
28.12.2010 It's always nice to be on the cover. Adformatie looks at the trends for 2011 with their end-of-the-year-special Blik op 2011. For the cover I designed snow chrystals that symbolize these trends in a subtle way. 14.12.2010 Dutch Dolls gigs coming up! Friday December 17 we're taking Blanche to PUHA, a funky shop selling items by young designers, in Utrecht. Saturday afternoon you can find us at Centrum Beeldende Kunst in Rotterdam, during the opening of the exhibition Textile in the Mix.
10.12.2010 Tomorrow I'll be spinning some swing, motown, rock 'n roll and other sassy tunes at The Tassel Club (a burlesque club) at Proud Cabaret in London! The show starts at 20.30 and I'll be on at +/- 23.00. Come shake your tailfeather!!
19.10.2010 I just got back from Holland and already I'm planning my next trip! On October 30 Dutch Dolls will be DJ'ing at F.A.R.T., a multidisciplinairy event that takes place in a hotel, a hostel and two former warehouses in Rotterdam. The hotel rooms will be filled with small exhibitions, performances, and installations; the warehouses are the setting for live bands and DJs. All this for just €10 when you buy a ticket from their website (€12,50 at the door).
09.10.2010 Tomorrow I'll be off to the motherland again for the 100% Tuning event in Ahoy and a workshop in oldskool zine-making at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Dutch Dolls were invited by Remco from Shop4Cars (our main suplier of car audio equipment) to come along to this massive tuning convention to show off Blanche. I have no idea what to expect, but probably lots of cars, lots of men, lots of bass and lots of exhaustion fumes. Should be fun! The workshop is going to fun for sure, because Geeske and I ran this 'projectweek' before in April and it was a great success! Pictures will be up first on the Dutch Dolls Facebook page...
24.09.2010 A couple of months ago I designed a flyer for the Design Forum Wales, an initiative of the International Institute of Design Policy and Support here in Wales to help designers develop their professional practice. They've been so kind as to do a feature on me on their website and blog!
07.09.2010 Our Rollin' Soundsystem Blanche is on a roll! This week we're booked for a wedding in National Park Hoge Veluwe, an opening set for the band Bombay Show Pig at our beloved Rotown in Rotterdam (0n Friday 17th) and on Saturday 18th we'll playing during the opening of the Bazar Bizar Minishop, also in Rotterdam!
23.08.2010 I'm in Berlin right now and over the next week we'll be taking Blanche out for some guerilla DJ gigs :-) And before DJ'ing at a private party on Saturday 28th, we'll be wheeling her over to beach club Yaam! Drop by at the end of the afternoon for a cocktail, jerk chicken and some laidback tunes...

28.07.2010 Dutch Dolls proudly present Blanche - a Rollin' Soundsystem! We took a rollator/walker, painted it pink and gold, kitted it out with an amplifier, a bass tube (in a leopard suit), 2 CD players, a battery and all kinds of noisy and kitchy accessories. Now we can party in the park, at the beach, in your living room or at your granny's. As true Golden Girls we stoll behind the rollator in style while playing a nice mix of sunny, tropical feelgood tunes. Read more about Blanche on our special webpage! 08.04.2010 I recently took part in a project called Jazz Cakes 100: 100 t-shirts were handed out to 100 artists from various disciplines by Jazz Cakes, an artist collective based here in Cardiff. Each artist had to work with a designated number to create a piece from the starting point of this plain t-shirt. It took a while for the Jazz Cakes to retrieve all 100 shirts, but now the time has come to show the results! The exhibition opens this Saturday April 10 at gallery Studio B, 24 Tudor Lane (Riverside) in Cardiff. Drop by anytime from 18.00 till 23.00!
31.03.2010 I've got a couple of drawings in the exhibition Fine Lines that runs from April 2 till May 1 in Dek22, Rotterdam. Eight women were invited by Nelleke Boerkool to show their drawings (no prints). The opening is Friday April 2 at 16.00. Geeske will be DJ'ing, there will be snacks and a little shop where you can buy clothes, booklets, zines and accesories.
28.03.2010 Dutch Dolls are returning to the Gwidhw bar tonight for some laidback tunes! Expect a fine blend of girl groups, soul, funk, ska, rocksteady, hip hop, 80's pop, Dutch and German gems. Vinyl only. Doubt there will be people dancing in their underwear like last time (Har Mar Superstar's afterparty), but please feel free... So come along tonight and put on some good looking knickers!!
26.03.2010 Today was the last day of the Dutch Dolls workshop at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. For a week students worked on Zines: self published, DIY, low budget little magazines ('invented' in the 70s by the punks, popular with the riot grrls in the 90s and still amazingly alive and kicking today). We decided to do this the oldskool way: no computers!! We are so so pleased with the results, but even more with the students' enthusiasm and joy, and their will to experiment and work together!
14.03.2010 This past week I worked hard to finish the artwork for the Fields Apart EP by Cardiff based band Word Virus Essay. Its release is celebrated with a LAUNCH PARTY on March 26 at one of Cardiff best venues, Toucan. It will be a great night with the support of Skunkadelic and Dutch Dolls DJ'ing till the wee hours! Until then you can have a sneakpeek and -listen of the EP on their MySpace and Facebook page.
14.03.2010 Drop by at the Singersweatshop in Rotterdam this afternoon for Get Wild & Restyled! Here you can trade your clothes for new ones, get your hair cut at a cheap price, and some styling advice to go with it. All this while you have a lovely cuppa and some delicious cake (provided by Augusta Wind) and Dutch Dolls tunes in the background!
18.02.2010 In 2008 I participated in Grow Ups, an exhibition of eleven young Dutch artists whose work moves between mature art and childlike fantasy. It was curated by Renee Reijnders and she now managed to get the show to JAPAN!! On Saturday March 6 the exhibition will be opened at the Center for Creative Communications ' in in Shizuoka.

08.01.2010 Today was the kick off of the workshop "Going Dutch" at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture. Dutch Dolls is coaching 22 of the 150 international students to create a huge collaborate landscape, the Dutch way... We're very anxcious what the results will be!
16.12.2009 On December 22 - 24 things will get cosy at the little 'beach' next to the De Machinist (former DD HQ!) in Rotterdam with an event called Geheimnis von Marcus Lansendurfer. There will be glühwein, an open fire, oliebollen, all sorts of performances and a DJ-set by Dutch Dolls on Wednesday December 23 from 21.00 till 22.00!!
10.12.2009 Dutch Dolls will make their DJ debut in Cardiff tomorrow at Mother Mae I, an electro night of mayhem at the Cardiff Arts Institute!! They tell us to expect "everything from electro-pop to dirty beats via all manner of friendly filth with an electric undercurrent". Plus lollipops, limbo bears, riot showgrrrls and FREE PINK FIZZ..... We're on from 11.00 till 12.00!
09.12.2009 Just confirmed! Dutch Dolls will be DJ'ing at the Gwidhw bar in Cardiff on Sunday 13.12.2009! It really is one of the nicest places in Cardiff, so if you happen to be in the neighborhood drop by in the evening to chill out and get over your hangover!
