Every year Secret 7″ presses 7 tracks onto 7” vinyl, 100 copies of every track. In an open call for artists creatives from around the globe are invited to submit a sleeve design. Iin addition to this open call some world famous artists and designers are asked to contribute as well. This year’s contributors include Sir Anish Kapoor, Sir Paul Smith, Jenny Holzer, Anthony Burrill, Rob Ryan, Jean Jullien, Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian fame, Studio Moross, Tatty Devine, John Burgerman, Jordy Van Den Nieuwendijk, Louise Lockart and Pure Evi. Just to name a few. All the sleeves are for sale, but the buyer doesn’t know who created the sleeve (or even which song it’s for), until they bought it. The only thing you can be sure of is that you’ve got a unique piece of art.
I’m delighted that my design has made the cut, and is one of the 700 sleeves that are now on show at Sonos Studio (21 Club Row, London E2 7EY) in London.
The (free) exhibition runs till 1 May, Tuesday – Sunday 10AM – 6.30PM. Then on 2 May the sleeves will be sold for £50 each, on a first-come, first served basis. Expect long queues! This year proceedings will go to Amnesty International.
All designs can be seen in the online gallery on the Secret 7″ website.
